All the before photos were taken the day we moved in….boring beige flat paint on every single wall in the house. Before:
and after:
Where do I begin? We painted, trimmed windows, trimmed doorways, put up crown molding…
We put molding in the foyer, placed trim above the doors, painted those very, very (VERY) tall walls!
Not quite the same angle as the before photo, but I think you get the idea. I LOVE this living room now. It’s so calm and soft and comfortable. I slipcovered the ottoman a few days ago. That doesn’t sound very impressive, but when you consider the fact it’s been loosely covered in a drop cloth for about a year, the fact that I sewed a few straight seams is huge news. And the chalkboard above the couch used to be a mirror above the dresser in my guest room. During the giant earthquake of 2011, it crashed to the ground so I repurposed it. I think I like it MUCH better as a chalkboard anyway!
The toile chair came out of my office (aka the internet shopping room) for extra seating. I’m on the hunt for something to put there permanently. The curtains were right off the rack from Target. And they were on SALE.
My dog would NOT leave the room. Oy.
The dresser was something I purchased at Luckett’s about a year ago. The top is something I had and painted white to match. Turned out to work very well together!
I actually sewed a few pillows. I haven’t sewed in…forever.
Yes, the slipcover on this is a bit wonky. It’s an oversized chair wearing a loveseat slipcover. But it will do for now! I can’t decide if I should have slipcovers made or just buy some slipcovered Ikea furniture. I think the price would be about the same!
The chimney cupboard is something my husband made me about 12 years ago. I recently painted it with some home-made chalk paint. Let me tell you…I will NEVER paint furniture using regular latex paint ever again!

ooh i love those stripes!!! nice job!
I could literally sit in this room forever. With the dog. :) The stripes, Marie! They're perfection.
Oh, how beautiful! I love your windows! The stripes look great and add a modern touch. What a cozy room! I love the dresser/hutch combination. How do you make chalk paint? I've been wanting to try chalk paint, but it's rather expensive compared to latex.
The stripes are stunning. In fact, this whole room is stunning! Well done, Marie! Fun to check in with your blog from time to time. I don't get much time to read home decorating blogs anymore but I always like to see your posts. You do such a good job of making your houses your own.
